YSB to host car seat inspections September 27

Posted: Friday, September 15, 2017

In conjunction with the National Child Car Seat Safety Awareness week, the Youth Services Bureau will be providing car seat inspections on Wednesday September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the office located at 1344 Maple Drive.

“The agency is a permanent Fitting Station and can check car seats by appointment throughout the year. However, we wanted to make it a little easier for parents to come check to see if they are using the appropriate car seat or answer any questions they may have,” stated Sarah Brunner, car seat technician.

According to the latest statistics, 30% of fatalities of children under the age of four were unrestrained children. Unrestrained or inappropriately restrained children are three times more likely to be harmed in an accident then properly restrained children.

“There are very clear age and height requirements for child car restraints. These have been proven to be lifesaving so our goal is to ensure Huntington County families are aware of what type of restraint their child needs and to be a resource for when they have questions, “shared Ira Bencun, car seat technician.

The agency provides the car seat education through its On Your Way program which receives funding from United Way, Parkview Huntington Community Improvement and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
