Youth Services Bureau to offer suicide awareness

Posted: Friday, August 31, 2018

The Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County will be hosting a Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) training on Thursday, September 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This free suicide prevention training will be held at the Youth Services Bureau’s office at 1344 Maple Drive. Participants will learn local and state statistics, myths and facts, warning signs and risk factors, local resources and much more as it relates to suicide.

“This training is geared for family members, friends, pastors, etc. who want to learn more about this critical issue,” stated Stephen Ward, QPR instructor. One participant stated, “This information was so vital, everyone should hear it.”

“This is a topic most do not want to deal with or even acknowledge. Sadly, however, suicide will likely touch the majority of families in Huntington County in some way,” shared Jan Williams, executive director. “It is important we know the facts and are able to help provide support to those who are under the belief suicide is the only answer to whatever they are dealing with.”

Space is limited. Please RSVP by calling the Youth Services Bureau at (260) 356-9681. The training is sponsored in part by Parkview Huntington Hospital Community Health Improvement funds. To learn more about the training or the suicide prevention efforts in Huntington County contact the agency.
