Youth Services Bureau to host car seat clinic

Posted: Friday, June 14, 2013

The Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County is hosting a Car Seat Clinic on Saturday June 29. The event will be held in the show arena at Hier’s Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine.

Certified car seat technicians will inspect your child’s car seat and will provide important installation tips. In order to participate in the clinic, participants must bring their child’s car seat and the child must be present to achieve the most accurate inspection. The event is open to the public and is free of charge. The event is sponsored in part by a grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Car seat technician, Ira Bencun states, “This is the first Car Seat Clinic for the Youth Services Bureau. We want the community to be aware of the importance of using the appropriate car safety seats and how to use them correctly.”

Some important facts about child safety seats include: hundreds of children are hurt or even killed due to inappropriate use of child safety seats each year, 85% of child safety seats are not installed correctly, car seats expire after approximately six years and car seats that have been in an accident, even if they do not appear to have damage, should not be used.

A limited number of car seats will be given the day of the event. To learn more about the clinic or to seek information concerning child safety seats, contact the Youth Services Bureau at (260) 356-9681 or email Ira Bencun at
