Youth Services Bureau thanks the community

Posted: Friday, September 27, 2019

Dear Community,

The Youth Services Bureau, on behalf of the Teen Suicide Prevention Task Force, would like to thank all of those who helped make the 9th Annual Walk for Hope a huge success. There were over 200 walkers who participated in this year’s event. The main goal of the walk is to raise awareness of suicide and emphasize the importance of prevention. The event raised approximately $1,000. The funds will be used to continue suicide prevention efforts, which include suicide prevention classes for adults and students, informational materials and direct crisis intervention for young people in Huntington County.

The event was hosted by the Teen Suicide Prevention Task Force and the Youth Services Bureau. A huge thank you goes to this year’s sponsors. They were the Department of Mental Health and Addictions, Parkview Huntington Hospital and Bippus State Bank. We would also like to thank those businesses who participated in the Walk with the Battle of the Businesses.

Not only did the event help to bring awareness to this tragic issue it also served as a support to those who were walking in remembrance of a loved one who was lost to suicide. Regardless of the walker’s reason for participating in the event, the atmosphere was one of hope, support and encouragement.

Please mark your calendars for next year’s walk which is scheduled for September 19, 2020.

The Youth Services Bureau and the Teen Suicide Prevention Task Force provides a two-hour suicide awareness and prevention program at no cost.
