Young professionals group still looking to grow

Posted: Friday, August 31, 2018

H.Y.P.E., Huntington Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs, as the name describes, is a group of young professionals meeting together twice monthly. The group was begun as a project of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce and an idea of Brooke Sommers, Partners 1st Federal Credit Union.

According to Sommers, the group currently has about 15 members but she would like to see those numbers grow. The group’s intent under the direction of Sommers is to give young professionals in the area a place to connect, engage and build community. The plans for the group include building relationships, community involvement and volunteer opportunities.

The group meets on the first Monday of every month at 8 a.m. at Moe’s Restaurant, 2990 W. Park Drive. The September meeting is rescheduled for Monday, September 10 due to Labor Day. The Monday morning meetings are very informal where the group just chats and networks with each other.

The group also meets on the third Thursday of every month and the location changes monthly. The next Thursday meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 20 and will be held at Mecates, 105 Frontage Road, at 7 p.m. The Thursday meetings normally have two different presenters each given 10 to 15 minutes to talk about their businesses. During this time, participants are also given a chance to make any announcements about events or projects they are working on.

Those interested in becoming a part of H.Y.P.E. should contact Sommers at or visit the H.Y.P.E. Facebook page at
