YMCA offering registration for several sessions

Parkview Huntington Family YMCA has registration open for many classes which can be attended by community members or YMCA members. New sessions for many lessons, seasons and classes begin within the first two weeks of January 2020.

In the area of arts, youth and adults can register for the School of Music or School of Dance as there are a variety of options for individuals of all ages. In the School of Music, the YMCA offers lessons in violin, cello, fiddle, voice, guitar and piano. New sessions offered include electric guitar and group ukulele lessons. Many of the Y’s music classes include the option of renting the instrument.

The Y School of Dance offers ballet, ballroom, character, clogging, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, pointe and tap. Adult sessions are offered in clogging and ballroom. In each of these arts areas participants do have some options for virtual classes or in-person sessions. The opportunity for virtual or in-person vary depending on the specific class offering. In the sports department the Y is gearing up for the next sessions of KIM League co-ed basketball. Basketball registration closes December 31 so community members are encouraged to register soon. Basketball leagues are being formed for the following ages/grades: PreK (ages 3.5 to 5 years), kindergarten/first grade, second/third grade and fourth grade. Most practices for KIM League will begin in mid-January with games in February and March. Spectators will be limited to adhere to COVID protocols. For basketball questions contact Mariah Town

Gymnastics registration is also underway for sessions to begin January 14. Gymnastics classes are offered for parent/tots, PreK (ages 3 to 5), levels one through three and tumbling of all levels. Class sizes are limited and take place on Thursday evenings at the Y facility. For gymnastics questions contact Jill Gradeless

Within aquatics, swim lessons are offered monthly with options of private lessons and adaptive swim lessons open on an as-requested basis. For community members looking to gain certification in lifeguarding the Y will be offering American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification for individuals 15 years or older. Prerequisites include: swimming 300 yards continuously while demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing; treading water for two minutes using only the legs; completing a timed event within one minute and 40 seconds. Online content will also need completed prior to the first day of class. Classes will be held January 4 to January 8 during morning hours.
