Posted: Friday, August 16, 2019

Do you or a family member have diabetes? Want to make the best choices for your health?

In cooperation with Purdue Extension Office, the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA is offering a four-session series, Dining with Diabetes. Join us for this series to learn the keys to managing Type 2 diabetes. Adults with Type 2 diabetes (or those who are at risk) are invited to participate. Family members, caregivers and support persons are invited too.

The Lunch and Learn series is being held the following dates and times on Wednesdays: August 28, September 25, October 23 and November 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA located at 1160 W 500 N.

Following are the topics to be covered: Week 1: What is diabetes?/snacks & appetizers; Week 2: Carbs and sweeteners/desserts; Week 3: Fats and sodium/main dishes and Week 4: Putting it all together/side dishes Since this is a four-session series, attendance each month is strongly encouraged. Individuals who attend all four sessions will be eligible for a free three-month YMCA membership.

Each week during the educational session, Miller’s Merry Manor or Heritage Pointe of Huntington will be providing lunch. There is no cost to attend the series; however, registration is required and may be completed by calling (260) 359-9622 or stopping by the YMCA. For questions about the series, contact Vanessa Macias-Hannie, Director of Healthy Living at vanessa.hannie@huntingtony.org.
