YMCA holds ribbon cutting for new pool patio

Posted: Friday, June 8, 2018

The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA held a ribbon cutting to celebrate its new pool patio space this summer, on the front (facing southwest) side of its facility. The ceremony was held on Wednesday, June 6 at 12 noon.

“This addition should be a great gathering place for kids, families and seniors who want to get some sunshine as they are enjoying our aquatics center,” said YMCA CEO Ben Davis. Davis continued, “Whether you’re here for swim lessons, open swim, water exercise class or swim team, we think the new space will get a lot of use.”

Construction began in late April and wrapped up recently. Scott Baker Construction was the general contractor for the project while the concrete work was completed by Doctor Construction, and the landscaping was completed by Huntington Nursery.

The patio will be available for rental by groups who would like to use it for birthday parties, sports teams, youth group gatherings and related events. This project is part of a series of celebrations the YMCA has planned to mark ten years at its current location, leading up to an official birthday event this fall. The YMCA facility officially opened on November 8, 2008. Davis said special fundraising efforts covered the cost of the addition.

“We were approved for three generous grants from PNC Bank and also received designated gifts from a number of individuals and businesses,” Davis said.

Fundraising efforts will continue in order to perform cosmetic improvements to the interior of the aquatics center later this summer.
