Wilson named with 2013 Peare-Kay Award

Posted: Friday, October 4, 2013

Mary Wilson, RN, who has cared for Huntington hospital patients for more than three decades, is the recipient of the 2013 Dr. R.B. Peare and Dr. John B. Kay Award for Excellence in Healthcare. She will be presented with the award at the Parkview Huntington Community Gala, set this year for the evening of Saturday, October 26, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Wilson works in Inpatient Services at Parkview Huntington Hospital. She was selected for the award by a five-person panel consisting of members of the Parkview Huntington Hospital and Parkview Huntington Foundation boards, Parkview Huntington Foundation leadership, medical staff and the community.

The award is given by Parkview Huntington Hospital and Parkview Huntington Foundation to a recipient who has made significant and lasting contributions to the advancement of health care in Huntington County and the surrounding area.

Wilson is a graduate of Purdue University with an associate’s degree in nursing. She was a nursing assistant for two years before joining the nursing staff of Huntington Memorial Hospital in 1981. She has spent her entire career at Huntington Memorial/Parkview Huntington Hospital, most of that time in the inpatient area. Wilson is a Huntington native. She and her husband of 30 years, Jim, are the parents of two adult sons, Aaron and Adam Wilson, and currently reside in Huntington County.

Wilson said the most important thing she has learned about her job is that, “(W)e (of the nursing staff) are so much better when we work together. My patients come first; give me a one-on-one situation any day. I will always be a bedside nurse.” “There is always something you do, every day, that makes you want to come back another day,” she said of her work. “I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”
