Willie Nelson, Toby Keith tribute set

Posted: Friday, July 12, 2013

The Cottage Event Center in Roanoke presents two separate performers paying tribute to Nashville icons Willie Nelson and Toby Keith on Friday, August 23 at a fundraiser for the Roanoke Lions Club. Ypsilanti, Michigan musician Jeff Carr will headline the concert as ‘The Red-Headed Stranger,” Willie Nelson, while Pinckney, Michigan’s Steven Ross Jahn will appear as Toby Keith.

The presentation will begin with Jahn singing many of Keith’s country hits, including “Red Solo Cup,” “I Love This Bar” and “A Little Less Talk (And A Lot More Action).” The set will also include “Courtesy of the Red White and Blue,” a song Keith wrote after the attacks on New York City following September 11.

Following Jahn’s Toby Keith tribute, Jeff Carr will perform a number of the popular Willie Nelson’s hits ranging from “Whiskey River,” “Mama Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” and “Always On My Mind” and  “On The Road Again.” Following Carr’s solo set, Jahn will join him for a song Nelson and Keith recorded the title track from the motion picture “Beer for My Horses.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Roanoke Lions Club will be on site grilling food for purchase. A cash bar will also be available. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at Good Grains Gluten Free Bakery in Roanoke, Bippus State Bank in Roanoke or by calling (260) 483-3508.

The show marks the beginning of the second season of public performances at the Roanoke venue. The debut show last August, also for the Lions Club, featured Jimmy Buffet impersonator “Captn Jac.”  Other shows scheduled for the rest of the year at the event center include Indianapolis Classic Rock band KLAS (for Riley Children’s Hospital), Friday, September 13; Country Band Sugar Shot (for Roanoke Kiwanis) on October 11; husband and wife duo The Jay Taylor’s Rockin’ Christmas Show, Friday, December 6 and a Comedy Mystery Dinner Theater production, Fort Wayne’s Bower North Productions on New Year’s Eve.
