Warren Health and Fitness has grand opening

Posted: Friday, February 6, 2015

The Huntington County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at the new Warren Health and Fitness Center, 1111 Huntington Avenue in Warren on Friday, January 30. Saturday, January 31, was the official grand opening of the facility, Warren’s newest business, was celebrated and the community was invited to attend. The new facility, located in the former Dollar General, is owned by Mike and Stacy Haggerty.

Haggerty combined his love for Warren with his passion for health and fitness into Warren Health and Fitness. Haggerty and his wife, Stacy, who were the owners of Heartland Aluminum and Saturn Wheel, decided to share his 30-year passion for the gym with the opening of the facility.

Haggerty said, “This is not about making money. This is about helping the community of Warren to become a healthier community and a place where individuals can come on their schedule and workout.”

Haggerty went on to say, “I am working to get the fitness facility its own not-for-profit 501c (3) status, although the paperwork is complete and in the state’s hands, the formal approval has not been received.”

Among those things, Haggerty says the business has applied to be a Silver Sneakers vendor, which will cut the cost down to seniors if that can be accomplished. Another way Haggerty is keeping prices down is by offering multiple family-member discounts. Haggerty knows the benefits of exercise and eating healthy. He has more than 30 years of strength training under his belt.

Warren Health and Fitness features a variety of new and reconditioned Nautilus equipment. It also has free weights and aerobics machines like treadmills and more. The facility has a carpeted walking path around the inside of the building where 21 laps equals a mile.

“There are also rooms in the back for different kinds of Zumba, yoga, dance and a 55-plus group exercise and aerobics,” said Haggerty. “We want this facility to be for everyone, whether they are looking for others to keep them accountable or prefer to work out by themselves at their own time. The center features 24-hour keyless entry for members. The facility also features an equipped child watch room, as well as both men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers.”

On staff is Brittney Morton, a sports management major at Taylor University with a coaching certificate, weight training experience and is personal training certified. Amy Vance and Chrissie Linker, also are a part of Warren Health and Fitness, and have various instructional experiences at the YMCAs in Wells and Huntington County, and both have Zumba certifications. Ashley Allred is a licensed personal trainer with 11 years in the fitness field and is a 2005 graduate of the National Personal Training Institute.

The center is staffed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The child watch room is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
