Volunteers needed for Relay for Life

Posted: Wednesday, February 5, 2014

Volunteers are being sought by the American Cancer Society to join the Relay for Life of Huntington County. Relay for Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area.

The events are held overnight to honor and symbolize cancer patients’ journeys through treatment. The 24-hour Relay for Life has a festival-like atmosphere. The goal of the event is to keep one team member on the track at the location at all times throughout the evening. A Relay team is a group of 12 to 15 people, led by a team captain, who commit to raising at least $100 each and participating in the overnight fund-raising event.

All of the proceeds raised through the Relay for Life fund the mission of the American Cancer Society. Events are held across the state of Indiana and raise money to help cancer patients and their families, local communities and to fund cancer research.
