Veterans Memorial is moving forward quickly

Posted: Friday, August 28, 2015

The Veterans Memorial at Memorial Park continued to move forward this week. The newest addition, a T-33A airplane, arrived in Huntington this week from Virginia. The T-33A is one of the first jets used at the end of World War II. Veterans of World War II definitely recognize this war plane.

Construction workers are preparing the pedestals and the surrounding area to make room for the plane. Once the new plane is painted, it will be mounted upon the pedestals for show only. The plane will not be used for playground equipment or for children to climb on.

The T-33A is identical to the plane already at the park. The planes at the park and the Huntington Municipal Airport are both on loan to the city from the Air Force. The new plane at Memorial Park has been purchased by the City of Huntington.

As the Chamber mentioned in last week’s Chamber Notes, the tank has been placed on its permanent concrete pad, and now the plane will find its home at the park. The Chamber congratulates the City of Huntington for giving the citizens of Huntington County their own park, honoring veterans and for making all of us proud to call Huntington home!
