Two receive Optimist Youth Appreciation Awards

Posted: Thursday, February 8, 2018

The continuing awards for the Huntington Optimist Club’s 2018 Youth Appreciation Awards series go to two Huntington Catholic Middle School students. Andrea Krumanaker, daughter of Mark and Cathy Krumanaker, and Eli Brown, son of Augustine and Darla Arellano, were named as recipients.

Krumanaker was nominated by the faculty at Huntington Catholic Middle School staff. The award says that “Andrea has a ‘heart of gold.’ She is quick to think of others and their needs. She helps promote a good atmosphere at school and also helps out by babysitting outside of school.”

Krumanaker participates in cross-country where she earned a leadership award, Girl Scouts, collecting box-tops to repair a school statue, church Christmas choir, Open Door Ministry with baking and delivery, visiting nursing homes and the Pioneer Festival.

Brown participates in soccer, basketball, cross-country, 4-H, church youth group, Student Council, volunteered at a fish fry, Pizza Hut fundraiser and the Pioneer Festival. The Youth Appreciation Award states that Brown was also nominated by the Huntington Catholic Middle School staff.

The staff says, “Eli is always respectful and likes to help out where needed. He sets a good example with his positive and ‘down-to-earth’ attitude. He helps out not only in school but also with his family. Brown helps his uncle with construction and taking care of many animals. He is a good all-around citizen.”
