Two pianists on tap for Evensong concert June 25

Posted: Friday, June 16, 2017

Andrew Nesler’s solo piano concert brought the 2015 and 2016 season of the Evensong Concert Series to a close, and he returns Sunday, June 25, this time bringing friend and fellow pianist Mario Cervantes with him. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Guilford Street.

Nesler just completed his junior year as a piano performance major at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, and Mario is a recent graduate of IPFW with a degree in piano performance. Each pianist will perform pieces for solo piano and they will join forces to perform piano duets, a first for the Evensong Concert Series.

Nesler started taking piano lessons at the age of 8. He studied with Sondra Franks in Tucson, AZ, and is currently pursuing a degree in piano performance at IPFW with Dr. Hamilton Tescarollo. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including an Honorable Mention (2015) and later First Place Prize (2017) at the state-wide Indiana Music Teachers Association Hoosier Auditions. He has been a featured performer in the Gene Marcus Piano Camp and has attended master classes with pianists Ruth Slenczynska, Ilya Yakushev, Boris Slutsky, Terrence Wilson, Fabio Bidini and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer William Bolcom.

Cervantes recently graduated from IPFW in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Music in piano performance and a Bachelor of Science in music and an outside field in music technology. He studied with Dr. Tescarollo during his college years. Mario has competed in piano com- petitions and has received awards, including honorable mentions at the state level of the Indiana Music Teachers’ Association Hoosier Auditions in May 2016 and May 2013.
