Two Parkview employees receive scholarships

Posted: Thursday, September 29, 2016

Two Parkview Huntington Hospital employees, both Huntington residents, have been awarded Jill Dreyer scholarships for the fall 2016 semester.

Angela Skinner, RN, and Olivia Eckert each received $750 toward their education costs for the current academic semester. Skinner is a registered nurse in the hospital’s Family Birthing Center. She is working toward her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through Western Governors University, Indiana.

Eckert is a patient care technician with the hospital’s Medical/Surgical unit. She is pursuing an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) at Ivy Tech Community College, Fort Wayne.

The awards were announced by Mike Perkins, director, Parkview Huntington Foundation, which administers the Jill Dreyer Scholarship funds.

“This scholarship is a great example of generosity at work at the hospital,” he said. “The program is funded by gifts from Parkview Huntington Hospital co-workers during the foundation’s annual Employee Generosity Campaign, and with proceeds from this year’s Parkview Huntington Community Gala.”

The scholarship was established in 2004 in memory of the late Jill Dreyer, a Parkview Huntington Hospital nurse. It provides four $750 scholarships each year to full- and part-time Parkview Huntington Hospital employees pursuing a nursing education. It also is used to reimburse qualified candidates for fees incurred taking their final examination for various nursing certifications. Since its inception, the Jill Dreyer Scholarship program has provided $22,750 in assistance to hospital employees.

The Jill Dreyer Scholarship program reflects Parkview’s commitment to encouraging aspiring nurses and experienced nurses furthering their career studies to aim high. In a continuously changing healthcare environment, nurses who advance their knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis are able to provide better patient-centered care and innovative clinical leadership. Parkview Huntington Hospital and the Parkview Huntington Foundation are dedicated to improving the health of community residents and to inspiring greater well-being, for patients and caregivers alike.
