Trails to celebrate opening day on April 18

Posted: Friday, March 6, 2020

Outdoor enthusiasts and trail lovers nationwide will kick off the spring trail season as part of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s (RTC) eighth annual Opening Day for Trails. Opening Day, RTS’s annual celebration of trails nationwide serves as the unofficial launch of the spring trail season, and is designed as a way to celebrate and draw attention to the benefits that trails bring to their communities.

“Trails give us so much and they bring communities together, creating outdoor space for everyone to be active and connecting people to the places they want to go,” said Brandi Horton, RTC’s vice president of communications.

Huntington will celebrate the Opening Day for Trails on Saturday, April 18 at the Yeoman Park pavilion. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with a celebration of the annual Opening Day for Trails. Walkers, runners and cyclists are all invited to participate. Volunteers will lead each individual group highlighting Huntington area trails.

The event will kick off Cardinal Family Medicine’s 2020 monthly Walk with a Doc series and is hosted in partnership with the Huntington Area Recreational Trails Association (HARTA). Be sure to arrive early to enjoy some healthy snacks and a brief health talk provided by Dr. Janelle Maxwell Pflieger. Helmets are required.
