Toys for Tots program accepting gifts

Posted: Friday, November 18, 2011

The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program has placed red and white boxes around Huntington to accept gifts for the annual program.

New, unwrapped toys can be donated for children from birth through 14 years of age. All of the toys collected will be given to local children at Christmas time and all toys collected in Huntington County stay in Huntington County.

According to Jane Bell, local program coordinator, toys for older children ages 10 to 14 years are the greatest need. Some suggestions include remote control vehicles, footballs, basketballs and games.

Collection boxes are located at Owen’s North and South, Beacon Credit Union, Midwest America Credit Union, Evangelical United Methodist Church, Veterans’ of Foreign Wars, both American Legion locations in Huntington, Big Lots and Walgreen’s. Collections will continue until the second week of December.

A Marine HMVEE promoting Toys for Tots will be a part of the Santa Claus parade on Saturday, November 26. The parade will begin at St. Mary Catholic church at 10 a.m. Santa’s’ elves will be walking alongside the HMVEE to hand out candy and other treats.

The HMVEE will be taken by the Marines to Big Lots at Huntington Plaza following the parade. Gifts will be given away and toy collection boxes will be available.

Cash donations are also accepted. For more information about the program or to make a donation online, visit www.toysfortots.org.
