Toys, coats for children to be provided

Posted: Thursday, December 6, 2012

New toys and coats will be provided this Christmas season to local children through a partnership between Walmart and The Salvation Army. The project is part of the 122nd annual Red Kettle Campaign.

A toy/coat drive will be held at the Huntington Walmart tomorrow, December 8, known as “Fill the Truck.” The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Huntington Walmart store is one of 2,500 across the country participating in the collection day. Children who participate in The Salvation Army programs throughout the year will receive the donated toys and coats.

Those shopping at Walmart tomorrow who are interested in helping out with the toy and coat collection, will receive a list of suggested gifts to help fill The Salvation Army van at the store. The Salvation Army will bring the donations to the facility at 1424 E. Market Street and distribute the gifts to local children in need. The Salvation Army expects that the collection will provide gifts to more than 600 children.
