Third pediatrician joins PPG office, returning home

Posted: Friday, July 30, 2021

Parents now have increased access to pediatric care as a third pediatrician joins the Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) – Pediatrics team in the John B. Kay Medical Office Building on the Parkview Huntington Hospital campus. Allison Meyer, MD, will begin seeing patients August 9.

A Huntington native, Meyer is the second pediatrician who has joined Duane Hougendobler, MD, and Nicole Pitts, PA, this summer to provide care for young patients at the medical office and at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Earlier in July, Greshma George, MD, started seeing patients in the office.

“We’re thrilled that Dr. Meyer is joining the PPG - Pediatrics team,” said Hougendobler. “She is very excited to come back to Huntington and use the skills and expertise she’s acquired.

“Huntington has been really lucky,” he continued. “We’ve had many local sons and daughters who’ve come back to settle here over the years. By knowing the area well and having some shared experiences with folks here, Dr. Meyer understands some of the local challenges. With her addition, we’ve got a terrific team in place and will be able to expand our hours so we can see patients 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. three days a week and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. two days a week.”

Right now, expanded hours are on Mondays and Wednesdays. Hougendobler notes that expanded hours will also go into effect on Thursdays starting August 12. Since the recent launch of the Pediatrics Clinic, walk-in care is now available anytime during operating hours, on any weekday. Parents do not need to call ahead to make an appointment. Walk-in patients are seen by whichever provider is available at the time of the visit.

Dr. Meyer returns to Huntington from Indianapolis, where she completed her residency in pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine after having received her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

During her residency, Dr. Meyer received the Red Shoes Award from Riley Children’s Hospital at IU Health. The annual award recognizes one resident for outstanding accomplishments, contributions and commitment to family-centered care.

Meyer received her bachelor of science in chemistry and biology from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana. She is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

“I shadowed a pediatrician in high school as an assignment,” said Meyer, “and I remember coming home and telling my family that was what I wanted to do. Throughout my medical training, I kept an open mind to other fields, but my love of pediatrics was always more than anything else I encountered. I loved the opportunity it provided to be able to care for a child from birth to adulthood and be a part of that journey with their family.

“I always knew I would love to practice in a community like Huntington,” she continued. “I had the opportunity during residency to work in the Huntington PPG – Pediatrics office, and after working with the wonderful staff and remembering how amazing the people of this community are, I was so excited. I wanted to have the opportunity to apply for a job as a pediatrician in Huntington. I love being back in the community; it is a ‘full circle’ moment, which is something I definitely don’t take for granted!”

In her spare time, Dr. Meyer enjoys travel, baking and spending time on outdoor activities such as walking, running, hiking and kayaking.

Dr. Meyer is welcoming new patients up to age 18. The PPG - Pediatrics office is located at 2003 Stults Road, Suite 105. To schedule an appointment, call (260) 355-3250.
