Following last month’s unemployment report, Indiana is touting its attractiveness for businesses. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) says the state outperformed much of the nation in key areas of employment and job growth.

The state’s unemployment rate in October stayed steady at 3.5 percent, which ranks ninth in the nation. The DWD says Indiana’s unemployment has decreased 7.1 percent since July 2009, which was the state’s highest point of unemployment.

Additionally, the DWD says Indiana ranks second in manufacturing jobs added since July 2009 with 104,600. The state also ranks seventh in private education and health services jobs added over the last month, seventh in construction jobs added over the last year, and fifth in financial activities job growth year-to-date.

Indiana’s labor force participation rate has also outperformed the national average for 53 consecutive months. October’s labor force participation rate in the state was 65.1 percent, higher than the national rate of 62.9 percent.
