Posted: Wednesday, March 13, 2013

The eighth annual Huntington County Spring Family Festival will be held on Saturday, April 20 at Hier’s Park. Food, entertainment and information about services provided by area social service agencies will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Heritage Hall.

David Dean, local comedian, will entertain along with Learning While Laughing Productions, the Huntington University Women’s Chorale and the Huntington University Treblemakers. Chant Thompson will man the grill, flipping hot dogs for those in attendance.

A variety of social service agencies will be in attendance to raise awareness of the services they offer to families throughout Huntington County. Each of the agencies will have a free children’s activity.

Participating agencies include the Boys & Girls Club, Huntington Fire Department, YWCA of Northeast Indiana, Parkview Huntington Family YMCA, Huntington City-Township Public Library, Huntington County Literacy Coalition, McKenzie’s Hope, Youth Services Bureau, Pathfinder Kids Kampus, Purdue Extension Office, Huntington Special Services, Huntington County Master Gardeners, The Salvation Army and The Bowen Center.

The festival is being promoted by Huntington University students with the help of Huntington County LACE (Local Anti-drug Coalition Efforts). During the festival, several HU students will ask parents to complete a survey about the festival and their awareness of social service agencies in Huntington County. Free T-shirts and grocery tote bags will be available to those completing the surveys while supplies last.

For more information about the Spring Family Festival, call Dr. Carla MacDonald, director of social work education at Huntington University, at (260) 359-4220. The free festival is held in a tobacco-free environment.
