Spokesmen Cycling ribbon cutting, March 23

Posted: Thursday, March 16, 2017

Spokesmen Cycling moved to its new Roanoke location on March 7. The full service bicycle shop is located at 247 N. Main Street (the former Roanoke Antiques & Vintage Emporium), and offers nearly everything that a bicyclist could want or need, according to owner Larry Buzzard.

A ribbon cutting at Spokesmen Cycling will begin a Chamber of Commerce After Hours on Thursday, March 23 at 4 p.m. The event will continue through 6 p.m. at several locations in downtown Roanoke including Spokesmen Cycling; Clear Elevation, 314 N. Main Street, Suite 112; IBA-Design Inc., 314 N. Main Street, Suite 140 and Board & Brush, 160 S. High Street.

Spokesmen Cycling will evolve with the new market as he caters to more customers in southwest Allen County and General Motors employees, says Buzzard. Already he has seen a different customer base patronizing the store.

Buzzard was in his Huntington shop for five years. He commented that he really loved it, but it was “chopped up,” with three separate rooms. The new open-concept store is a full service bicycle workshop with three mechanics, two of whom are UCI (United Cycling Institute) certified. The mechanics can repair all makes and models.

The new Spokesmen Cycling also has areas dedicated to bicycle sales, shoes, helmets, apparel and accessories. Buzzard says he carries comfort, touring, mountain, cruisers, road bikes and hybrid style bicycles. Brands sold include Jamis, Litespeed, Masi and Haro bicycles. There is also a locker/changing room.

Roanoke is a great intermediate place for cyclists from Huntington, Wabash, Columbia City and Fort Wayne, according to Buzzard. He said, “It’s a middle point for a lot of people and it’s a great cycling community.”

The public is invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Spokesmen Cycling and the following After Hours event. Those attending will be able to walk between the stores and there is no cost to attend.
