Splash on the Wabash successful, good turnout

Posted: Friday, August 1, 2014

The first annual Splash on the Wabash was considered a success according to Tina Bobilya, executive director of the Huntington County Visitor and Convention Bureau. Bobilya was the steering committee chair for this year’s event.

“We had a good turnout even though the weather was a bit threatening. We felt this was a great event for Huntington and an opportunity to teach water safety to individuals that took part in the event,” said Bobilya.

“Our goal was to put on a great event where everyone attending could have a good time and where it did not cost anything to attend. Another goal was to get people close to the water and learn more about the water and water safety.” I heard from several people how excited they were to participate in the Splash,” said Bobilya.

Bobilya further commented, “The event saw more than 50 individuals volunteer for the event and 47 local businesses help with sponsorship. We had close to 150 rafts and floating devices show up for the trip down the Wabash River.”

Bobilya said, “We are very grateful to our sponsors, the people that attended our first annual Splash on the Wabash and are already looking forward to how we can make next year’s event even bigger and better.”
