Special Olympics to be featured at HNHS

The Huntington County Special Olympics basketball team will be featured for a “Special 10 Minutes” at half-time of the Huntington North Varsity Boys Basketball game on Friday, January 13, in the Huntington North Gymnasium. The Special Olympics athletes will have “10 Special Minutes” to scrimmage and showcase their talent to the community. Come support these athletes and feel their enthusiasm for the sport.

Also, Huntington County Special Olympics will be hosting the 10th Annual Huntington County Invitational Basketball Tournament on Saturday, January 14 at Huntington North High School. Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. with the competition tipping off at 9:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.

Tournament organizers are expecting 55 teams from 13 Indiana counties. Over 500 Special Olympics athletes will be participating in 5 vs. 5 games, 3 vs. 3 half-court games and basketball skills events.

The Huntington County Senior Vikings play the Howard County Senior Wildkats at 9:30 a.m. The Huntington County Vikings will play the Cass County Lions at 10:30 a.m. Also, at 10:30 a.m., the Huntington County Thunder will play the Elkhart County Wizards.

Other area teams participating include those from Allen, Cass, DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Howard, Jay, Madison, St. Joseph, Wabash and Wayne counties. No admission is charged. Concessions are available. For more information, contact Keith Hartley at (260) 410-1107.
