Special Olympic games to kick off at HNHS

The Huntington County Special Olympics basketball teams will have a “Special 10 Minutes” of playing time during halftime of the Huntington North Varsity Boys vs. DeKalb basketball game on Saturday, January 26.

The Huntington County Special Olympics will also be hosting the 12th Annual Huntington County Invitational Basketball Tournament on Saturday, February 2 at Huntington North High School. Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. with the competition tipping off at 9:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.

Tournament organizers are expecting 45 teams from 15 Indiana counties. Over 500 Special Olympics athletes will be participating in 5 vs. 5 games, 3 vs. 3 half-court games and basketball skills events.

The Huntington County Raiders (youth) play the Noble County Conquerors at 9:30 a.m. The Huntington County Vikings will play the Wabash County Rock City Rollers at 10:30 a.m. The Huntington County Thunder will play the Jay County Bobcats at 11:30 a.m.

Other area teams participating include those from Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Howard, Jay, Madison, Marshall-Starke, Noble, Randolph, St. Joseph, Steuben and Wabash Counties in Indiana.
