Shelter breaks ground for new addition

Posted: Friday, November 25, 2011

The Huntington County Humane Shelter, 390 Thurman Poe Way, broke ground Tuesday, November 22 for its new addition to the shelter. The new $126,000 addition is the first of two phases of work to be completed, with the second phase to include renovation of the existing building. The shelter has raised about $250,000 toward their goal, according to Pat Merckx, and that if cuts need to be made to the project she guaranteed that it will not affect the animals that are sheltered there. She continued, “To see our goals come to fruition, the shelter needs to raise an additional $80-$100,000 to complete the entire project.” If you would like to help the shelter, contact Merckx by phone at (260) 519-1804 or through e-mail at pjm1019@att.net.
