Salvation Army to meet needs through Christmas

Posted: Friday, November 22, 2013

The Salvation Army’s Tree of Lights is located on the front lawn of Central Christian Church for 2013. The Salvation Army has a goal of raising $100,000 by the end of December through the lighted tree.

The tree located on MacGahan Street, near the church and Huntington North High School, began with all red lights. One red light will turn green for every $500 raised toward the $100,000 goal. The funds raised will be used to provide assistance to local families at Christmas and throughout the year.

The traditional Salvation Army fundraising red kettles are also in place at Walmart, Owen’s north and south, Kmart, Walgreens and JCPenney. Bell ringers man the kettles from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Sunday, according to Salvation Army Captain Barbara McCauley. Volunteers are needed to serve as bell ringers and may contact Jason Sell at the Salvation Army, (260) 356-3485 to help ring the bells.

Contributions toward the $100,000 goal may also be mailed to: The Salvation Army, 1424 E. Market Street, Huntington, IN  46750.
