Rotary Club Centennial Park to begin soon

Posted: Friday, March 6, 2015

Demolition is currently underway of the former Lehman, Wolf & Dessaur, Roche Hall building at the corner of Jefferson Street and Park Drive. The Rotary Club of Huntington is preparing to celebrate its centennial in 2017 with the construction of Rotary Centennial Park on the lot.

Construction on the park will begin immediately after the building demolition is completed. The demolition and construction are intensive due to the building’s basement and the design of the adjoining parking lot. Park plans include green space and a new parking lot.

An arch will grace the entrance to the park, which will include a fountain in the shape of the Rotary wheel, benches and a large clock. The clock is to have four 42-inch faces so that it can be seen from any direction. Each face will have the Rotary wheel on it.

Rotary Centennial Park will be built in such a way that it will not need much upkeep in the future. Most of the Rotary Club’s 65 members are helping to raise the funds for the park. Other funds for the park will come out of the club’s budget, grant applications and fundraisers.
