Roanoke to celebrate the Christmas season

Posted: Friday, November 30, 2012

The town of Roanoke’s Christmas celebration will take place on Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8. Santa will arrive Friday night and breakfast with Santa will take place on Saturday morning. The theme for Saturday is “All Creatures Great and Small.”

Main Street will be closed for the event and Roanoke area merchants will have extended hours. Craft and baked goods will be available and carriage rides will take place all around town. The Huntington County Humane Shelter will be a part of the Saturday Christmas celebration and donations for the animals cared for there will be taken. Those attending are encouraged to bring dog and cat foods, dog treats, dog toys, clean used towels, clean used blankets, paper towels and shampoos.

Children will be able to roast marshmallows at a fire pit on Main Street and other activities include a cookie walk, a wine tasting event and a canine demonstration by the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department. A dog sniffing demonstration by dog trainer Judy Archer Dick will also take place and several rescue and dog adoption organizations will be on hand to help those in attendance to adopt a dog if they so desire. A petting zoo will also be a part of the day for children and a photographer will take free pictures of people with their pets.
