Proclamation establishes Manufacturing Month

Posted: Friday, October 9, 2015

Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters and Huntington County Commissioner president, Tom Wall jointly signed a proclamation establishing October as Manufacturing Month in both the City of Huntington and Huntington County.

The proclamation was presented to the Lime City Development Committee of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation at its regular meeting on October 2. The proclamation was part of National Manufacturing Day/Month celebration throughout the nation. Nearly 2,300 events were conducted around the country marking the celebration. The national effort is being promoted by a coalition of groups representing manufacturers all across the United States. Some of the groups include the National Association of Manufacturers, the International Association of Fabricators & Manufacturers and The Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

The purpose of the national events is to celebrate modern manufacturing in a way to help inspire the next generation of manufacturers and the workforce. Regionally, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and other economic development partners coordinated similar activities and the Huntington County Community School Corporation has additional activities planned on October 14 featuring plant tours for high school students at UTEC and Continental Structural Plastics and others in Huntington County. The joint proclamation acknowledged the tremendous impact manufacturing has on the Huntington County economy.

“Employers in the manufacturing sector account for over one third of our county’s GDP,” says Mark Wickersham, executive director of Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. “The fundamental prosperity of our local economy depends on opportunities related to manufacturing. We’re honored to work on their behalf every day.”
