PHH awards Jill Dreyer Scholarships

Posted: Friday, February 23, 2018

Three nurses at Parkview Huntington Hospital (PHH) have been awarded Jill Dreyer Scholarships for the spring 2018 academic semester. Natalie Gill, RN, of Fort Wayne; Paula McClain, RN, of Columbia City and Amy Rosen, BSN, RN, of Urbana, will each receive $750 to apply toward their nursing education costs.

Gill is a member of the hospital’s Inpatient nursing team. She is working toward her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Indiana, in anticipation of pursing a master’s degree in nursing and a family nurse practitioner degree.

McClain has responsibilities in the hospital’s Medication Infusion Unit. She is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University.

Rosen is the nursing clinical educator at PHH. She is working toward her Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management at Western Governors University. She also received a Jill Dreyer Scholarship for the fall semester in 2017.

All awards were announced by Mike Perkins, director, Parkview Huntington Foundation, which administers the Jill Dreyer Scholarship program. The program is funded by gifts from Parkview Huntington Hospital co-workers during the foundation’s annual Employee Generosity Campaign, along with the proceeds from past Parkview Huntington Community Galas.

The scholarship was established in 2004 in memory of the late Jill Dreyer, by those who had worked with her during her service as a Parkview Huntington Hospital nurse. It provides four scholarships each academic year to full and part-time PHH employees pursuing a nursing education. It also is used to reimburse qualified candidates for fees incurred taking final examinations for various nursing certifications. Since its inception, the Jill Dreyer Scholarship program has assisted 29 individuals with a total of $28,000 in academic aid. Eight of those 29 received the scholarship more than once.

Doug Selig, vice president of Patient Care Services, PHH, chaired a committee of hospital nurses which reviewed the scholarship applications and selected the recipients.
