Pathfinder VITA program seeking volunteers

Posted: Friday, August 24, 2018

The Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, is seeking volunteers and site supervisors for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Next year marks the tenth anniversary for the VITA program to be offered through Pathfinder Services. Next year the free service will be offered in three locations to include Huntington, North Manchester and Wabash.  Each tax return completed saves over $200 in preparation fees for families in these communities.

Volunteers are needed to provide tax preparation from January through April. Administrative positions also exist. Anyone over 18 years of age can volunteer for the free tax preparation program. The IRS provides free tax law training and all the materials needed to prepare basic individual income tax returns. Volunteers do not need to have prior tax experience; the staff of the Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center will provide volunteers with support and review of each return.

Hours are flexible and there are no minimum requirements on the number of hours for each volunteer. To become a volunteer for the Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center’s Free Tax Preparation program, please contact us at (260) 355-2510 or e-mail
