Pathfinder to host Republic Services at the HAEC

Posted: Friday, June 4, 2021

Pathfinder Services will host volunteers from Republic Services for National Neighborhood Promise Day at the Huntington Arts and Entrepreneurial Center (HAEC) on Saturday, June 5, at 10 a.m. The HAEC is located at 32 E. Franklin Street in Huntington.

Volunteers will be assembling picnic tables, filling planter boxes and cleaning and decorating the rear courtyard for use by tenants living above the HAEC, visitors and patrons of the HAEC and the public.

“At Republic Services, we believe in being a good neighbor, and we are proud to partner with Pathfinder Services,” says Paul Cardinal, Republic Services General Manager. “This partnership will support our neighbors by helping revitalize a hub for local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and community members to gather and collaborate.”

The project is funded by a National Neighborhood Promise grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. Through National Neighborhood Promise, the Republic Services Charitable Foundation partners with select nonprofit organizations to directly support neighborhood revitalization projects and programs in local communities.

The HAEC is located on the first and second floors of the Odd Fellows historic buildings in downtown Huntington. It is part of a collaborative, community-wide solution to address Huntington County’s economic and social needs through historic revitalization.

“We are very grateful that Republic Services chose the HAEC as part of their National Neighborhood Promise program,” says Carrie Blackham, Chief Operating Officer at Pathfinder Services. “From creating community murals with children to hosting entrepreneur courses for aspiring business owners, we are truly working hard to strengthen our community every day.”

National Neighborhood Promise Day precedes a community Open House at the HAEC, which is scheduled for Sunday, June 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. and includes tours of the building, with a special stop in the rear courtyard.

“This day also coincides with NeighborWorks Week, a weeklong celebration of neighborhood revitalization activities recognized nationally,” says Katy Strass, Director of the HAEC. “As a fairly new business in the downtown Huntington community, the value of neighbors helping neighbors is crucial to us as we work to show people what we have to offer in our beautifully renovated space.”

The Huntington Arts and Entrepreneurial Center is a multi-purpose community arts center that serves all people as they pursue their interest in the arts and in business opportunities. By facilitating a downtown presence for arts and entrepreneurship, the Center serves as a creative hub and is catalyst for expansion of the city’s economy. The Arts Center will exercise the missions of each of its collaborators with the intent of contributing to the revitalization of historic downtown by turning it into a place where quality of life is at the center of importance, and everyone is accepted and included.
