Pathfinder Services offers free tax preparation

Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, will again be providing free tax preparation assistance to those who made less than $55,000 in 2016. This year, 2017, marks the eighth year for the Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) Program. The Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center will begin offering this service on Monday, January 23, and the service will run through Monday, April 17. A drop-off option is also available.

For those who wish to work one-on-one with a certified IRS preparer to file both state and federal taxes for free, call (260) 355-2510 or email to make an appointment. Appointments are limited and are on a first come, first served basis. The hours for free tax preparation are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays in February. For those wanting to take advantage of the drop-off option, hours for drop-off are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Pathfinder Services, 2824 Theater Avenue.

Pathfinder Home Ownership Center is the community development division of Pathfinder Services and was created in 1997. Pathfinder Home Ownership Center is a certified NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center with offices in Huntington and Fort Wayne.  The division guides potential home buyers through the entire process of pre-purchase education, financial capabilities, homebuyer education, loan packaging and closing, post-purchase counseling and foreclosure prevention if needed, free tax preparation, individual development accounts, and community building and organization.
