Pathfinder receives $50,000 grant from AWS

Posted: Friday, May 29, 2020

Pathfinder Services is receiving a $50,000 operating grant from the AWS Foundation to assist the organization with increased costs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially going forward with the extra precautions and staffing costs of reopening day services for people served with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

During a video call on Wednesday, May 13, AWS Foundation CEO Patti Hays made a surprise announcement to leaders of 11 area not-for-profit organizations that each one is receiving a $50,000 grant for a total of $550,000 to the recipients.

“I was overwhelmed by the news of the extra funds,” says John Niederman, president and CEO of Pathfinder Services. “We are beyond grateful to the AWS board for recognizing the financial toll this pandemic has taken and will continue to take to create a safe environment and provide the extra staffing as we respond to the individual needs of those served. The grant was an acknowledgement of the great work our dedicated staff are all doing to keep those we serve active and engaged in a safe and healthy place.”

Hays told the group of leaders that this was their way of saying thank you for continuing to offer services to those in need when so many other businesses were shutting their doors and having to lay people off. The announcement was met with words of thanks, cheers, smiles and even some tears.
