Pathfinder announces free tax preparation

Pathfinder Community Connections NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, will again be providing free tax preparation assistance to those who made less than $55,000 in 2015. Pathfinder Community Connections will begin offering this service on Monday, January 25 and the service will run through Monday, April 18. A drop-off option is also available.

This year marks the seventh year the Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) Program will be offered. Over 1,400 family and individual tax returns were prepared by Pathfinder Community Connections VITA program volunteers in 2015. Of those, 380 qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) which in 2016 could save a qualifying family anywhere from $503 to $6,242 depending on the size of the family.

For those who wish to work one-on-one with a certified IRS preparer to file both state and federal taxes for free, appointments can be made by calling (260) 355-2510 or emailing Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. For those wanting to take advantage of the new drop-off option, hours for drop-off are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m., and 5 to 7 p.m. at Pathfinder Services, 2824 Theater Avenue.

Pathfinder Community Connections is the community development division of Pathfinder Services and was created in 1997.
