The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and Greater Fort Wayne Inc. are lining up their pitch to be part of the state’s proposed Regional Cities Initiative. Executives behind the effort believe the program could play an important role in helping turn the 10-county region into a “national economic powerhouse.” The partnership believes its corner of the state is “uniquely positioned” to be selected because of its alignment with many of the best practices identified by the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

The initiatives ultimate goal is to help selected parts of the state boost development and attract as well as retain top talent. The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership believes the state program will be able to help leverage $1 billion in potential state, local and private sector investments over the course of a decade. The Partnership says it will focus on a 50-60 “slate” of potential economic development projects when it makes its proposal to the state.

The bill to launch the initiative has cleared the Indiana House and is currently being discussed in the Senate. You can view HB 1403 by clicking here.
