Parkview YMCA to host Obstacle Race

Posted: Friday, February 20, 2015

Parkview Huntington Family YMCA is hosting its first Obstacle Race, the YMCA Sock Soaker, on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 9 a.m. All proceeds and contributions from the event will support the Annual Campaign, formerly referred to as the Partners with Youth Campaign.

The Obstacle Race will be outside, start at the YMCA, and end close to the YMCA. The route will be three to four miles on and off road. Participants will not know the route until the day of the race except for the race committee. Appropriate footwear is suggested as the race will not be accomplished in stocking feet. Participants will receive a new pair of socks at the finish line. The race route will be changed every year.

The mission of the YMCA dictates that no one is turned away due to the inability to afford programs, services, or access to the facility. In order to operate the facility, provide programs at a high level, and provide subsidies at the same time, it is essential that funds are raised to make this possible.

The fundraising goal for 2015 is to provide over $35,000 in financial assistance to families in need, of which every cent must be raised through community support. Plans are well under way and the YMCA is excited to bring the new Sock Soaker event to Huntington that promotes fun, fitness and philanthropy!

The race is for teams or individuals, and those interested in being a part of this fundraising event can register online at Type Sock Soaker in the search box. Sponsors for the event are also welcome.
