Parkview Y announces summer patio project

Posted: Friday, April 13, 2018

The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA will have a new outdoor recreational space this summer as a sun patio will be added to the front (facing southwest) side of its facility on 500 N. The upcoming project was announced at last week’s “State of the Y” fundraiser event.

“This addition should be a great gathering place for kids, families and seniors who want to get some sunshine as they are enjoying our aquatics center,” said YMCA CEO Ben Davis. “Whether you’re here for swim lessons, open swim, water exercise class or swim team, we think the new space will get a lot of use.”

Construction will begin before the end of April and the timeline for completion will be dependent on weather. The patio will be available for rental by groups who would like to use it for birthday parties, sports teams, youth group gatherings and related events.

This project will be a part of a series of celebrations the YMCA has planned to mark ten years at its current location, leading up to an official birthday event this fall. The YMCA facility officially opened on November 8, 2008.

Davis said that the YMCA’s annual campaign for this year will be combined with a special fundraising effort for the renovation. “We already have the project partially funded through grants and lead gifts from several individuals and businesses,” he said, “but we hope there will be more donors who might want to support it, to leave this gift for current and future swimmers at our Y.”
