Parkview Huntington Healthy Steps, October 8

Posted: Friday, September 23, 2016

“Improving your health and inspiring your well-being.” That’s Parkview Huntington Hospital’s mission and it’s the reason the hospital hosts its health fair, Healthy Steps, in the spring and fall. On Saturday, October 8, visitors can take advantage of free health screenings and services, reduced-cost lab tests, information on medical conditions, healthy lifestyle tips and imaging services.

Parkview Huntington Hospital will present Healthy Steps on Saturday, October 8. The health fair will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. in the front lobby and lower-level classrooms of the hospital located at 2001 Stults Road, Huntington.

Low-cost lab tests: new for this October event are $20 flu shots and lower prices for some of the lab tests: PSA test (prostate cancer) $14; Glyco A1C (diabetes) $20; Hemogram CBC (anemia) $8; TSH test (thyroid function) $12; CRP Ultra-Sensitive blood test (heart disease) $12; Vitamin D (bone health) $14; Chem 17 (basic blood chemistry) $18 and Chem 30 (Chem 17 plus liver/kidney function) $25.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer lower prices on several of our lab tests, since our goal for Healthy Steps is to make important tests and screenings affordable for as many people as possible,” says Juli Johnson, president, Parkview Huntington Hospital. “And we’re able to offer flu shots as an added convenience we think people will really appreciate.”

Visitors who have the Chem 17 or Chem 30 test must fast for eight to 12 hours before arriving. During fasting, no food may be eaten, and only water is allowed. Diabetics should take their prescribed medication as usual.

Lab results will be mailed about two weeks following the event. Visitors are encouraged to bring a pre-addressed mailing label for use on the envelope containing their results. Results will be available via MyChart for users of Parkview’s electronic health record. A specialist will be at the event to help visitors create their own MyChart accounts in just a few easy steps. MyChart enables users to schedule appointments, view test results, refill prescriptions, and even send questions to their Parkview Physicians Group doctors, all at their own convenience.

Free health screenings: screenings are available for hearing, vision, foot health, bone density, balance and skin cancer. Body-fat analysis and breathing assessment are also available.

Diagnostic imaging: imaging services are available by pre-arranged appointment for HeartSmart CT scan and digital mammogram. To schedule a HeartSmart CT Scan ($50) or digital mammogram appointment, call (800) 533-2252, ext. 53400. The HeartSmart CT Scan can detect early heart disease before symptoms surface. This simple, painless, non-invasive scan takes only about 15 minutes. Gift certificates for the HeartSmart CT may also be purchased anytime at Parkview Huntington Hospital. To learn more about the tests and fees or to schedule an appointment aboard the Parkview Mobile Screening Coach call (855) 356-TEST. A variety of ultrasound-based tests assessing risk of heart attack and stroke, as well as certain digestive conditions, is performed on the specially equipped motor coach, which will be parked near the hospital entrance during Healthy Step.

Health and wellness information: Healthy Steps is a great opportunity to talk one-on-one with healthcare professionals for  information on a host of topics, including (but not limited to) sleep disorders, birth planning and prenatal classes, diabetes management, orthopedic concerns/surgery, stroke, lung cancer screening, asthma management, hand-washing and infection prevention, healthy eating, exercise and stretching and safety.
