Parkview Huntington Family YMCA

The Summer has traditionally been a slower time at the Huntington YMCA, but not this year. Improved programming has kept the building busy.
In our Fitness Department, all programs have grown in their numbers. From our Boost Camp, that helps kids fight through their own nutrition and fitness problems, to the Youth Strength and Conditioning Camp for kids wanting to get in better shape for their chosen sport, to the CardioBlast classes that challenge adults through an intensive running, jogging, (and sometimes crawling) regimen of exercises to strengthen their heart, body, and mind.
In the pool, the outside heat has driven up the use of our indoor pools. Lap-swim has seen increased numbers and all the water aerobics classes are jam-packed. Swimming classes are offered throughout the week and are filled up. Call the front desk or visit our website, www.huntingtony.org, for information about times and days from our brochure. Knowing how many children and some adults are not properly trained how to swim, the Y strongly encourages families to take advantage of our knowledge and patience to help your child or loved one learn to swim.
The gymnasium has been busy every day! Starting immediately after school dismissed for the summer, we hosted basketball camps for boys and girls ages 4 – 13 yrs. We were thrilled to see nearly 70 children participate. Following basketball was gymnastics. Again, we couldn’t be happier. Our numbers doubled for Gymnastics Camp to almost 30 girls signing up for the week-long program. Volleyball for girls finishes up this week. The support for this camp was surprising. Over 40 girls have been setting and spiking for the past 2 weeks. Soccer Camp also arrived this week and 27 kids are developing their skills in the 5-day camp. All that is left is the Golf Clinics for kids and adults. The Golf Clinics will be held at Frazanda Golf Course … utilizing both the driving range and putting green. The clinics will be held August 2-6. Kids, ages 9-15, will learn the basics of the golf swing and will use the facility from 9:30 am – 11 am. Adults will meet at Frazanda from 6 pm – 7:30 pm that same week.
A final note about the Summer … the Y now has a new logo. The new logo is simpler and more colorful than the old one. It helps capture the diversity and warmth of our organization. While the outer vision may change a bit, the overall perception of the Y will continue to be one of inclusiveness and integrity. We will be a louder voice for strengthening the foundations of the community and help re-focus our energies on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
If you have not visited the YMCA, we welcome your first visit. If you have not been here for a while, we miss you and hope to see you soon! Grab your friends and come sign up for a fitness program.
Have a safe and Happy Summer!!!!
