Parkview Golf Classic raises over $18,700

Posted: Friday, July 12, 2013

For the second consecutive year, a foursome captained by Dr. Derek Dyer posted the low score of the day to capture the first place in the 23rd annual Parkview Huntington Golf Classic. The event was held Thursday, June 27 at LaFontaine Golf Club.

Proceeds from the day topped the goal of $18,700 and will purchase a portable infant warming unit for use in Parkview Huntington Hospital’s Family Birthing Center. Huntington University was host sponsor for this year’s classic, which attracted 29 foursomes. Parkview Huntington Foundation organizes the event and more than 20 hospital employees and community members volunteered to assist throughout the day.

“The weather cooperated this year and the 29 teams that took part were very competitive,” said Foundation Director Mike Perkins. “The generosity of the golfers and sponsors helped the Foundation meet an aggressive goal of raising funds for the infant warming unit. Scheerer McCulloch Auctioneers conducted by far the most successful live auction we have had for this event.”

The foursome of Dyer, EJ Carroll, Chris Hoke and State Representative Dan Leonard carded a low round of 57 and won in a tie-breaker over the team of Lee Cutting and Mark Poe from Universal Home Health along with Dr. Craig McBride and Jason Kennedy. Finishing third, also in a tie-breaker, was First Federal Savings Bank foursome of Michael Zahn, Susan Zahn, Matt Roth and Jay Kyle, which carded a 61.

Dave Winn, playing with a foursome captained by Greg Batt, was the winner of the gentlemen’s drive accuracy contest on the fourth hole. The women’s winner in that competition was Kristy Boone, playing in a foursome representing Parkview Signature Care.

Other course skills contest prizes went to Kathy Cotton, playing on the Pabla’s Pros foursome of Parkview Huntington Hospital employees, for the long putt on the ninth hole; John Easterday, playing on the Huntington University team, for the long putt on the 15th hole; Dyer’s drive was closest to the pin on the second hole and Linda Foland, another member of the Pabla’s Pros team, had the drive closest to the pin on number 17.

The 2014 Huntington Golf Classic will be held on June 26, 2014 at LaFontaine Golf Course.
