Parkview Boys & Girls Clubs receives grant

Posted: Friday, February 16, 2018

The Parkview Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County Running Club: Run Parkview BGC was chosen for the 2017 Kids Run the Nation $500 grant from The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). Run Parkview BGC is one of fifty-two programs to receive funding.

Run Parkview BGC meets for one hour every day in the summer, and teaches participants how to stretch properly along with breathing techniques. It also teaches participants to pace their runs so they can run effectively. At the end of the 2017 summer club, members then participated in the Superhero 5K in Fort Wayne. The Road Runners Club of America grant recipients are from 30 states and the District of Columbia, serving more than 8,700 children, and give a total of $40,000 in grants from the RRCA.

Erica Gminski, RRCA Youth Programs coordinator said, “Engaging kids through participation-based running programs positively impacts their lifetime attitudes toward physical activity and directly combats the obesity epidemic. This year’s Kids Run the Nation grant applicants are filling voids in their local communities and deserve recognition for developing a generation of young people who value health, wellness and fun. The creativity and generosity exhibited by our 52 grant recipients should be held as a standard for new and established programs alike.”
