Parkview Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County received an Honor Award for Overall Participation and Regular Attendance at Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 111th National Conference held recently in Dallas, Texas. The organization received a $5,000 award from MetLife Foundation, sponsor of the annual recognition program, which honors local clubs for innovative, effective programming and leading youth to great futures.

The Honor Award for Overall Program Excellence is presented to a club that has conducted the best overall program, as determined by entries submitted in each of BGCA’s five core program categories: character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts and sports, fitness and recreation.

As part of the goal to increase ADA from 167 in 2015 to 220 in 2016, the club set a goal to increase membership by 10%. The club successfully achieved an ADA of 244 and surpassed the 10% membership goal through improving the physical space provided to teens, expanding the use of the facility to partner organizations, increasing the club’s presence throughout the community and offering new programs for youth. The club began hosting meetings and events for various organizations at the club to growing the awareness of the organization and provide the opportunity to gain a greater familiarity with all offerings.

Continuing with the goal of raising awareness, as an organization the club committed to increasing the frequency and number of youth events they attend. All part-time staff attended at least one event per semester, and full-time staff attended at least three. This allows the staff to interact with the friends of club members and meet parents, giving the opportunity to promote the supportive relationships the club offers and allowing both youth and their parents a comfort level in visiting the club. In addition to the aforementioned efforts, the club rewards and recognizes members for frequency of attendance and tenured membership.

“In communities nationwide, Boys & Girls Clubs play a vital role in providing young people with safe places to learn and grow,” said Dennis White, president and CEO of MetLife Foundation. “We are pleased to recognize Parkview Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County for providing exemplary programs and making a positive difference in the lives of local young people.”
