Operation UP sends their thanks

Posted: Friday, May 27, 2011

Thanks to the wonderful efforts of all the people who took the time to help out with Operation “UP” (Unselfish Participation). We have been able to clean up several areas throughout the county. Several groups are still maintaining areas through the growing season and all the work has been greatly appreciated. Any effort toward beautification helps make our county a great place to live, work, and play. It is a true statement that “The Man/Woman in the Mirror can make that change.”

The Beautification Committee has set their next goal on a new project “Operation River Clean” and is requesting volunteers. The plan is a summer long event which will run from after Memorial Day to Labor Day every Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. starting June 1 and ending August 31. It will take place at the river bank at Briant Street and Riverside Drive on the south side of the river toward Jefferson Street and then back to Briant Street on the north side. The event will be strictly for volunteers and waivers will be required to be signed by everyone. Please provide your own equipment and please dress accordingly. Cleaning will involve cutting away brush and cutting small trunks and pulling debris up the bank.

If you are interested in participating just show up on the south side of the river at Briant Street on Wednesdays and we will start from there. Any time that a person can give will be greatly appreciated. All of the goals have been established to create pride in our communities by making our roadways and property attractive and business friendly. People do make judgments about us based on how well we maintain our property and roadways. First impressions of a county can be its details to weed control, well-maintained yards, and flowers planted. Please consider taking part in helping in whatever way you can to make Huntington County a great place to live and raise a family.
