Operation River Clean needs volunteers

Posted: Friday, July 15, 2011

“Operation River Clean” continues every Wednesday evening through August 31 by the Beautification Committee of Operation “UP” (Unselfish Participation). The group works from 5 to 7 p.m. each Wednesday along the river bank at Briant Street and Riverside Drive on the south side of the river toward Jefferson, and back to Briant Street on the north side. Volunteers are needed to continue this service and would be greatly appreciated.

All of the goals have been established by Operation “UP” to create pride in the community by making roadways and property attractive, and business friendly. According to studies, first impressions of a county can be its attention to weed control, well-maintained yards and flower plantings. Residents should consider taking part in helping in whatever way they are able to make Huntington County a great place to live and raise a family.

Anyone interested in participating in “Operation River Clean” should come to the south side of the river at Briant Street on Wednesdays. Equipment is needed and those participating should dress accordingly. Cleaning will involve cutting away brush and cutting small trunks and pulling debris along the river bank. Signed waivers are required by all participants.
