Operation Backyard to mark ninth summer

Posted: Friday, June 26, 2015

2015 marks the ninth summer that Huntington youth leaders and their youth groups, in partnership with Huntington County Habitat for Humanity, will participate in Operation Backyard. The cooperative event will take place over the weekend of July 10 through 12 to help youth serve in their own backyard.  This year’s team will be working in a six to eight block neighborhood near Memorial Park.

Each youth attending the weekend is charged $35 to participate. They are housed at Huntington University and the cost includes food and supplies plus a t-shirt. Area churches help to underwrite some of the costs involved. Huntington area youth leaders estimate that over 200 kids and adults will be involved and additional funds will be needed.

Operation Backyard organizers are asking area businesses to consider helping to support this project. Those contributing time or financial resources would be investing in young people and their service to the community.

For more information, including registering a student, please contact Hillary Vaught of Life Church, or Bobby Kemp, Huntington Church of the Nazarene, Donations can be sent to College Park Church, 1936 College Avenue, Huntington, IN 46750. Checks should be designated for Operation Backyard.
