One Billion Rising event at Victory Noll Center

Posted: Friday, February 8, 2013

One Billion Rising will take place at Victory Noll Center, 1900 W. Park Drive, Thursday, February 14. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and those attending are encouraged to bring a lunch, beverages will be provided and there is no cost.

One Billion women and those who love them are invited to attend this One Billion Rising event. It invites women to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP and demand an end to the violence against women. One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in their lifetime. One Billion Rising believes one billion women violated is an atrocity and one billion women dancing is a revolution.

The event at Victory Noll Center will include mural making, prayer, dancing and celebrating women. One Billion Rising is a global strike and a call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends. The event is an act of solidarity, demonstrating to women the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers and a refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given. It introduces a new time and a new way of being.
