On Your Way Up program offered at YSB

Posted: Friday, June 20, 2014

The On Your Way Up program has been offered by the Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County since 1997. This program provides families with safety items such as door gates and safety locks, gently used clothing, diapers and much more. Parents can purchase these items through “vouchers” they obtain by participating in healthy life activities for themselves and their children.

Vouchers can be obtained through activities such as but not limited to seeking prenatal care, working with lactation nurse, participating in WIC, well-baby checkups, library activities and other activities that enhance the family. There are more than 16 community partners who participate in this program by providing the families vouchers at the time of their involvement with their office.

“The store is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment. Safety items and educational items are a high priority for the store, however, baby clothing is the most requested items,” said Ira Bencun, program coordinator. Information on community resources, health education such as lead poisoning, healthy eating and access to one-on-one support is also available through this program. Car seat inspections and education are also available through this program.

“We desperately need community support as our supply of baby to size five clothing is extremely low,” said Jan Williams, executive director of YSB. All donations are tax deductible.
